College Readiness
At Arete, our clients always ask us, “What books do you recommend for standardized test prep?”
On this page, we have aggregated links to purchase our recommended preparation materials for the SAT, ACT, and TOEFL tests.
ACT
Kaplan, Princeton Review, and McGraw Hill all provide excellent ACT books, but the place to start is always The Official ACT Prep Guide, sometimes called the “ACT Red Book,” which is created by the authors of the ACT and includes several actual test forms given in previous years.
SAT
All students who are preparing to take the SAT should have The Official SAT Study Guide, often called the “SAT Blue Book.” It is published by the College Board and includes 8 real SAT forms given in previous years. For supplemental materials, Barron’s, Kaplan, McGraw Hill, and Princeton Review offer excellent prep books.
TOEFL
For non-native English speakers seeking to enroll at American schools, the Official TOEFL Prep Guide and the Kaplan study book are phenomenal preparatory tools.
